Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is providing the Quad-County community with a weekly update for the week starting October 21 and ending October 27, 2021.
Carson City had 4 deaths, 91 new cases, and 57 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 12 new cases per day with a 5.9% test positivity rate.
Douglas County had 4 deaths, 39 new cases, and 50 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 5 new cases per day with a 11.0% test positivity rate.
Lyon County had 6 deaths, 105 new cases, and 66 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 12 new cases per day with a 12.2% test positivity rate.
Storey County had 1 death, 3 new cases, and 2 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 39.1% test positivity rate.

COVID-19 Case Update
For the week, CCHHS is reporting 15 deaths, 238 new cases, and 175 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 19,983, with 15,367 recoveries and 333 deaths; 4,283 cases remain active.
COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of October 27, 2021, approximately 190,743 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 71,603 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Approximately 84,845 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 92,567 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna. This number also includes those who completed the series). Data is not CCHHS’ and is taken from the Nevada Health Response Dashboard which can be found at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/.
In Carson City, 32,696 residents have been completely vaccinated and 35,488 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 64.8% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Douglas County, 24,895 residents have been completely vaccinated and 26,997 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 56.5% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Lyon County, 26,475 residents have been completely vaccinated and 29,232 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 52.1% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Storey County, 779 residents have been completely vaccinated and 850 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 20% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.
Quad-County Breakthrough Cases
Vaccine breakthrough cases are individuals who testing positive for COVID-19 more than 14 days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, out of the total population in the Quad-County region who are fully vaccinated, approximately 1,255 people out of 100k are cases and approximately 14,138 unvaccinated people out of 100k are cases.
COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Dose
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) authorized booster doses for Moderna, Pfizer, and Janssen COVID-19 vaccines. Those who are eligible can now “mix and match” COVID-19 vaccine brands. This means they can receive any of the three vaccines as a booster, regardless of which brand they received for their initial series. Mixing and matching applies to booster doses ONLY, those who have initiated a Pfizer or Moderna series should complete the series with the same brand.

Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen booster doses are available for those who are eligible. COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card or proof of first dose is required for second dose, third dose, or booster dose. Community-Based COVID-19 Testing
CCHHS will be hosting COVID-19 testing events throughout the Quad-County Region. Tests are available free of charge, on a first come, first serve basis; no appointments or pre-registration needed.
