Purple costumes, food trucks, live entertainment – all are coming to downtown Carson City next month to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s.
The RCM Realty Group has had to postpone its fundraiser and 5k for more than a year due to the pandemic, so it is excited to kick off “A Walk/Run to Remember” at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 in the McFadden Plaza.
Participants may check in as early as 8 a.m., and all are encouraged to wear purple costumes in honor of the Alzheimer’s Association. There will be awards for the fastest racers and the best costumes.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Brenda Collings, the RCM agent organizing the event, is hoping that it will be a great opportunity for participants to build an awareness of Alzheimer’s and the support available to families.
“My dad had Alzheimer’s in 1984 before anyone even knew what Alzheimer’s was,” she told the Appeal over the phone. “The biggest reason that I want to do this, to be honest, is when my mom was dealing with my dad there were no resources.”
She added the Alzheimer’s Association in Northern Nevada will have a booth at the race and said that she hopes folks will take the opportunity to learn more about the disease, even if they don’t participate in the walk/run or costume contest.

Businesses who would like to donate should do so before the end of August. Walk participants can pre-register online for $30 until Sept. 16. RCM will also accept day-of registration at 7:30 a.m. in the McFadden Plaza.
