As of the end of August, 243 people have died on Nevada’s roadways in 2021.
That is 50 more deaths than the same eight-month period of 2020, a 26 percent increase.
According to the state’s Office of Traffic Safety, 50 of those killed in vehicle crashes were unrestrained.
Of those killed, two were in Carson City, four in Douglas and one in Churchill County. Lyon County has suffered nine fatalities, one more than in 2020.
The majority of fatalities in the state have occurred in Clark County — 142 thus far. There have been 33 deaths in Washoe County.
A total of 54 pedestrians were killed as of Aug. 31 including one each in Churchill and Lyon counties. Eight pedestrians were dead from crashes in Washoe but 42 in Clark County. But the statewide total is actually down by one death as of August.
The number of motorcyclists killed in crashes through eight months of 2021 increased sharply compared with 2020 from 34 to 48. That is a 41 percent jump.
The number of bicyclists killed also increased dramatically from two to seven as of the end of August.
