The storm predicted by this weather-wise seer continued to rage yesterday, with unabated violence. It rained in torrents in the valley where the atmosphere was warmer, while the mountains around the colder regions of air were shut out from view by pillars of snow.

C.E. Petersen, the photographer who runs his gallery on wheels, reached the city yesterday and located on the vacant lot opposite the Ormsby House. Peterson is pretty well known in Carson as a good artist.

It is time that Carson was moving in the matter of the inaugural ball to the new governor and members of the legislature. The mayor of the city, Mr. Will U. Mackey should go ahead and select a committee of workers and get matters into shape so that when the legislature meets, it will only be necessary to cut things loose and give the visitors about as good a time socially as they ever saw in the Battle Born state.

Visitors who weave their way past the parking lot and the gaming tables will find a fairyland of delight inside Caesars Tahoe. The casino’s “Santa’s Village,” would rival the best Macy’s - New York can muster for Christmas decorations and is the by-product of a massive effort on the part of casino employees.

Christmas was heartily observed in Carson. Despite the hard times, the liberal observances of the day were not forgotten, and gifts were disposed of on all sides with a lavish hand. The churches observed the day with special services. There were special services at the Catholic churches and the Episcopal Church. The Methodists had a Christmas log cabin attended by a crowd of delisted children and the Presbyterians had a beautiful Christmas tree. The secular portion of the community spent the day in the usual fashion, abstains from work and eating and drinking liberally.

A Christmas present. Christmas night the people were made a present that they appreciated. Mr. Adams turned on the incandescent lights in time for these patrons to use them in carving the Christmas turkey. Mr. Adams has been suffering considerable hard luck with the lights. When a part broke down it was forwarded to San Francisco by express in order to rush matters but was not to be had until it came from the east. He deserves more praise than he will receive.

The old vaudeville gag about the major and sergeant serving tea to privates in bed came true in a barracks near London. Officers and sergeants awoke their men yesterday, served them tea and biscuits and wished them “Merry Christmas.”

When Carson City machinist Russell “Tiny” Newcomb sat down to his Christmas dinner Saturday, there was an until-recently unfamiliar face across the table from him. The pixie-like face under the auburn hair belongs to the daughter he had not seen in 26 years until they were reunited in Kansas City in June.

As it has for 45 years, the Carson Nugget Coffee Shop opened its doors Christmas morning to hundreds of diners for a free holiday meal of turkey or ham with all the trimmings.

Owning to the rain and sloppy streets yesterday, there was very little display of mirthful feeling on the streets. An occasional firecracker discharged, a little knot of two or three going around loose and knocking glasses together at irregular intervals; the hollow ejaculation of “Merry Christmas,” and other such inseparables form the occasion forced the entire outdoor display that was made to celebrate the birthday of Christ.

Dissatisfied firemen. The member of the Warren Hose Company talks of disbanding on account of cold treatment they receive from the citizens of Carson in return for their gratuitous labors in putting out fires. A meeting is called this evening, and the subject will be discussed. Thirteen of the company talk of resigning and allowing the “feather-bed firemen” a chance to run the machine.

The children at the Orphan’s Home had a Christmas and a feast that was as good in many respects as many children who are considered more fortunate. Exercises were given by the children that formed a very interesting program. This was followed by a tree and not a child in the big building was overlooked. Christmas Day was a feast day. Mr. Josephs stated it took about 140 pounds of the birds to fill up the youngsters.
