A 34-year-old Winnemucca man was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison this past week.
George Wyatt Elms pleaded guilty in November to one count of theft of firearms from a hardware store operated by a federal firearms licensee.
U.S. District Judge Miranda Du also ordered Elms to pay $17,187 restitution for the more than two-dozen weapons taken in the theft.
Co-defendant Travis Klyn pleaded guilty in September and is set for sentencing March 4.
The two broke into the store by removing a roof panel and dropping 10 feet onto a staircase. They then broke through the store’s door and into a gun case.
In all, they stole 25 weapons.
To divert law enforcement’s attention, they set a fire in a nearby field.
