Churchill County Parks and Recreation kicks off the new year with a variety of classes and programs in early 2022 to enrich the lives of local residents… even some of our four-legged residents.

Youth Ski Program
Ski school returns this year at its new location and in partnership with Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program. Participants must provide their own helmets which are required. Registration cost of $225 per child (ages 8-17) and includes transportation, daily lesson, lift pass and ski or board rentals if child doesn’t have their own equipment. Twenty participants needed to make the program go.
Dates are Jan. 15, 22, 29 and Feb. 5 with Feb. 12 being a contingency date.
Fast-Pitch Softball Pitching Clinic
Join Tammy Shemenski for eight weeks of instruction to develop skills in the fundamentals of pitching at the City-County Gym on Venturacci Lane on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 11 through March 3.
Ages 6-12 (parents must stay at the gym with this age group) from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Ages 13-18 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Participants must wear athletic attire (preferably white-soled sneakers) and bring a glove/catcher to each session. Registered athlete will receive a clinic shirt.
Dog Obedience Classes
All classes offered in the Dry Gulch building at the Churchill County fairgrounds. Cost is $65 per dog and pre-registration is required.
Classes offered over six weeks on Mondays from Jan. 10 through Feb. 14.
Puppy Class (aged 9 weeks to 4.5 months) from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Beginning/intermediate (dogs over 4.5 months) from 6:35-7:35 p.m.
Advanced Dog Obedience Class offered on Wednesdays (Jan. 12, 19, 26, Feb. 9, 16, 23 and March 9).
Dogs will learn to focus on the owner/handler, how to perform basic commands and basic obedience skills. Owners will learn respect for their pets and how to control them correctly.
Bring soft treats for the dog
Handlers must wear soft shoes
Buckle collar and fabric leashes required
Copies of current shot records required for registration for all classes.
