The Oasis Academy basketball teams opened league play on the wrong foot Saturday evening.
The Bighorns boys team couldn’t complete the comeback against Smith Valley as the Bulldogs hit a free throw in the final seconds to win, 38-37, at the city-county gym. The Lady Bighorns fell 61-28.
Senior guard Trevor Halloran led Oasis Academy with 16 points, including two 3-pointers, while senior Westin Booker added eight points. Freshman Fenn Mackedon scored six points, senior Jacob Pike added four and sophomore Aaron Housel hit a 3-pointer.
Halloran came one rebound shy of a double-double and Pike had eight rebounds, including six on the defensive end. Booker grabbed six boards and Mackedon had four. Mackedon also had four steals, and Halloran had three plus two assists.
Oasis Academy is on the road this week with games at enCompass Academy in Reno on Friday and at Whittell on Saturday.
