Ideas on Tap is highlighting Black History Month Feb. 9 at the Adams Hub for Innovation. Northern Nevadans are invited to bring their favorite soul food dish with the recipe card and enjoy an open forum on Black history.

“It’s not just for African Americans to come, it’s for everybody. I’m inviting everyone. … As the old cliché goes, Black history is American history,” said Michael Smith, the organizer for Ideas on Tap.
His theme this year is “Health and Wellness,” with monthly discussion topics including finances, fitness, taxes, and more.

The Feb. 9 program will feature presentations from Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell, a practicing physician, and Dr. Jody Lykes, UNR’s coordinator for African Diaspora Program. There will be a Q&A after the presentations.

The program will run from 6-7:30 p.m. in The Studio at Adams Hub on 111 W. Proctor St. Along with a soul food dish and recipe to share, Smith is asking that participants bring canned and nonperishable foods for the food bank and wear red, green, and black in honor of Black History Month.
