U.S. Sens. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto have joined the list of senators co-sponsoring legislation to cap out-of-pocket costs for the drug insulin.
The legislation backed by the Nevada Democrats would cap out-of-pocket costs for the drug at $35 a month, requiring Medicare and private insurers to pay costs above that amount.
They said one estimate is that diabetics spend close to $6,000 a year on the drug, the cost of which has increased dramatically over the years.
“More than 250,000 Nevadans depend on insulin for their health but the sky-high cost of this life-saving medication creates an enormous financial burden,” said Rosen.
Cortez Masto said it’s important to make sure lifesaving drugs like insulin are affordable for all Nevadans. She pointed out that fully 10 percent of Nevada adults are diabetic.
