The Whistle Stop Inn on North Carson Street came crashing down on Tuesday. Local nonprofit Friends in Service Helping is demolishing the building to make way for a revitalization project. Once the rubble is cleared, FISH will start construction on a commercial building and two apartment complexes. The development will support and house participants in FISH’s workforce development program, known as Fast Forward 4 Families. FF4F helps connect minimum wage workers in Carson City with education and training in under-staffed industries, like healthcare, construction management, technology, and other trades. Jim Peckham, executive director of FISH, says that the slogan for the initiative is “moving from minimum wage to a meaningful career.” He visited the demolition site on Tuesday to see the progress. On Saturday, May 21, FISH will host a "Celebrity Waiter" groundbreaking ceremony and fundraiser where the Whistle Stop Inn used to stand on 1421 N. Carson St. Tickets for the dinner are $80 per person, $150 for couples, and $600 for a table of eight people. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the groundbreaking at 5 p.m. and the dinner and raffle at 5:30 p.m. The groundbreaking and fundraiser will both take place at the Whistle Stop Inn.
