The Fallon track and field team finished the regular season last weekend in Carson City and will compete in the 3A Northern Region meet on Friday and Saturday at Reed High School in Sparks.

The top-four placers in each event advance to next weekend’s state meet, which is also at Reed. The regional meet starts at 2 p.m. with the boys 110-meter hurdle trials for the running events and the field events begin with boys triple jump. The girls high jump, girls long jump, boys pole vault, boys shot put and girls discus events will occur on Friday. The remaining field events will be on Saturday, which starts at 8:30 a.m.
For the Greenwave, several have strong chances at extending their season into next week with the state meet.
Senior McCartney McAlexander leads the Lady Wave as she can qualify in the 800, both 100 and 300 hurdles, shot put and high jump. Athletes, though, can compete in only four total events, including relays.
McAlexander has the best marks in the region in shot put and high jump at 41 feet, 1 inch, and 5-4.25. She also is the team’s best hurdler, coming in ranked third in the 100 at 15.66 and fifth in the 300 at 45.42. McAlexander also ran the 800 in 2:28.67 recently, which is the second-best time in the Northern 3A.
Senior Madeline Stephens is the second-best discus thrower in the region with a throw of 107-7 and she’s also third in the shot at 35-10. Senior Britney McArthur ranks seventh in the shot at 29-4.25.
In the long-distance events, senior Savanna Regli is ranked third in the 1600 at 5:47.41 and fourth in the 3200 at 12:46.58. She’s less than 30 seconds away from first in both events.
Senior Michaella Pursley is third in the pole vault with a mark of 8-6.
Sophomore Jessalyn Lewis is second-best in the triple jump at 34-0.25 and had a personal-best in the long jump last weekend to sit in eighth at 15-6.75, which is a foot away from the top mark in the region. Lewis is also eighth in the 100 at 13.58.
For the boys, sophomore Kanigh Snyder has an opportunity to qualify in the 400, shot put, discus and triple jump. Snyder is the No. 2 triple jumper, coming in at 40-10.25, which is less than 4 inches from first. He’s ranked sixth each in the 400 in 53.92, shot put at 39-7 and discus at 127-2.
Freshman James Sorensen sits second in the 110 hurdles at 17.57 and fifth in the 300 hurdles at 46.59. Senior Luke Sorensen is ranked fourth in the pole vault at 11-6.
Fallon will be competing in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relays for both the girls and boys divisions. The Greenwave has rotated relay members throughout the season.

Carson Invite results
In the final tune-up before the regional meet, Fallon placed third in the girls division and 12th in the boys at Saturday’s Carson Invite.
Spring Creek won both divisions, taking the girls with 100 points over Fernley, 81, and Fallon, 75. The Spartans won the boys with 114 points. Fallon finished with 21.
In the girls division, McAlexander paced Fallon with second-place finishes in the 800 and 100 hurdles in 2:29.90 and 15.87. Regli finished fifth in the 1600 at 6:02.43, and senior Zoey Brown was 11th in the 300 at 54.74.
The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams finished fifth in 55.70 and 4:47.79.
McAlexander won the shot put at 38-11 followed by Stephens in second at 35-10, a personal best, and Britney McArthur in ninth at 29-4.25. Stephens was second in the discus at 105-5.
McAlexander won the high jump at 5-2, and Lewis finished third in the long jump at 15-6.75 and fourth in the triple at 33-9. Pursley was ninth in the pole vault at 8 feet.
For the boys, Snyder finished second in the triple jump at 40-10.25, Luke Sorensen took seventh in the pole vault at 10-6 and Tarner was ninth in the high jump at 5-4.
The 4x800 relay team finished third in 10:06.64, the 4x200 team was fourth in 1:37.08 and the 4x400 team finished ninth in 4:03.19.
