Tiger girls reset school record at state meet

 Jessica James capped off her high school track career in style as the three-event state qualifier helped lead the Tigers to another school record.
One week after the Tiger 4x100 relay team broke the school record, the foursome did it again on the state’s biggest stage.
James, who anchored the race, was joined by Julianne James, Bliss Moody and Kaylee Bradford as the foursome took home a third-place medal Friday night.
The new school record of 49.12 was a more than rewarding way to close out the season.
“We met all of our goals,” said Jessica James. “We placed. We beat the school record, again and we beat Reno.”
“It was amazing,” added Julianne James.
It’s a group that has posted a personal record every time out on the track this season.
Moody and Bradford are both freshmen and will have a few more chances to potentially set that mark even lower.
“Excited that we made it this far, seriously,” said Bradford. “My quads have been bothering me a little bit, but I pushed through it.”
“It felt like one of my best races,” added Moody, who was the last piece of the 4x100 joining the relay at the Big George Invite.
Jessica James took fourth in the open 100-meter dash (12.71) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (58.67) to cap off her career with two additional medals.
Moody took second in the long jump for Douglas and was sixth in the 200-meter dash.
In the long jump, the freshman hit her longest jump, 16–8.25, on her final attempt.
“Just to place. I am a freshman, so it’s cool coming to state,” said Moody. “Next year, I’m excited for track.”
In the high jump, Logan Karwoski tied for sixth with a clearance of 4–10.
On the other side of the field, Carissa Bilderback was fifth in the pole vault with her top clearance of 10 feet, six inches matching her season record.
Elsewhere in the field events, Megan Strand and Sophie Marchut were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put.
In throwing the discus, Marchut was sixth for Douglas while Strand took eighth.
As a collective unit, the Douglas girls were fifth in the team standings with 41.5 points. Centennial won the team title with 142.5 team points.

Tiger boys finish season on high notes
In the state 1,600, Jackson Davis was seventh in 4:42.22. The junior also ran in the 3,200, finishing in 9:57.72 to take fourth place and end up on the medal stand.
The Douglas High boys’ 4x100 team, set a personal record for the season at the state meet, crossing the line in 43.46.
AJ Thurston, Grady Frensdorff, Dakota Jones and Joshua Nelson put together the season’s fastest time, besting their regional mark by more than a second.
The 4x1 relay team missed out on setting the school record by roughly six-tenths of a second.
In the 4x200, Thurston, Frensdorff, Jones and Mateo Esquivel finished in 1:31.89 to take seventh.
