Only a few days of early voting in Churchill County remain, but for those who procrastinated with early voting or sending in a ballot, the in-person general election is Tuesday at the Fallon Convention Center.

Early voting hours this week are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Churchill County Commission Chambers, 151 N. Taylor St.

The final day of early voting is Friday. The general election at both the Fallon Convention Center and Fallon Paiute Shoshone Community Learning Center is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Churchill County Clerk/Treasurer’s office submitted its first week of early voting participation to Nevada’s Secretary of State.

According to the report, 1,513 Churchill County voters participated in early voting. Out of that total, 1,155 Republicans voted. Rounding out the turnout included 171 Democrats, 115 nonpartisan and 72 other.

The clerk’s office received 1,665 mail ballots which included the following affiliation: 669 Republican, 553 Democrats, 306 nonpartisan and 107 other. Additional votes received included five military and six from overseas residents.

Other key information on the returning in-person ballots, according to the clerk’s office, includes deadlines. Ballots must be received in the Churchill County Clerk’s Office by 7 p.m. on election day. Ballots may be returned in person to the clerk’s office or to a drop box outside the county building.

Mail-in ballots, which were approved by the Nevada Legislature during the 2021 session, must be postmarked on or before election day and received in the clerk’s office on or before the fourth day after election day which is Nov. 12. The last day for voters to “signature cure” or address any issue with the signature on their mail ballot is Nov. 14.

Locally, the following local candidates did not draw an opponent, but they will be on the general election ballot. Robert Getto, public administrator; Art Mallory, district attorney; Tasha Hessey, recorder; Denise Mondhink-Felton, assessor; and Linda Rothery, clerk/treasurer.

Kelly Frost was re-elected to the Fallon City Council in June. Candidates, though, are seeking three offices: Fallon City Council Ward 3, sheriff and the Churchill County School Board. Paul W. Harmon and Geoffrey Knell are running for the Fallon City Council Ward 3. Political newcomer Daniel Sharp is challenging incumbent Sheriff Richard Hickox and school board candidates are incumbents Matt Hyde and Amber Casey-Getto, while newcomers are Julie Goetsch-Guerrero, Walter Henderson, Joe McFadden, Bill Post and Ivy Ward.

The U.S. Senate race will go down to the wire between Democratic incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto and Republican challenger Adam Laxalt. Other candidates include Barry Rubinson (Independent American Party), Neil Scott (Libertarian) and Barry Lindemann (Independent).

Republican Congressman Mark Amodei will be seeking another term for Congressional District 2. Challengers are Elizabeth Mercedes Krause (Democratic Party), Russell Best (Independent American Party) and Darryl Baber (Libertarian).

There will be three ballot questions.

Ballot Question Number 1 proposes to guarantee equal rights. Ballot Question Number 2 proposes to prospectively increase the required minimum wage paid to employees, and Ballot Question Number 3, which also be on the ballot in 2024, seeks to amend the Nevada Constitution to allow for open primaries and ranked-choice voting.
