The Reno Aces’ successful 2022 season continued Monday as Gil Velazquez was named the Pacific Coast League’s Manager of the Year, with outfielder Stone Garrett and infielder Matt Davidson also garnering PCL All-Star selections.
In his first season as manager of the Aces, Velazquez led Reno to the league-best 85-63 record and won the franchise’s second PCL championship. Reno’s 85 victories set a club record for most regular-season wins.
It’s the first time an Aces manager has taken home the league’s top honor.
Garrett was one of the top outfielders in the PCL before his Aug. 17 call-up to the big leagues. He led the Aces in runs (73), total bases (221), home runs (28), RBI (95), slugging percentage (.568), and OPS (.900).
Davidson played in 11 games with the Aces during the first month of the season. While with Reno, he hit .386 with eight home runs and 12 RBI.
He finished the 2022 season with the Las Vegas Aviators and posted a combined .310 batting average, 32 home runs, and 66 RBIs.
The Aces will open the 2023 season at Greater Nevada Field on March 31 against Las Vegas.
