Looking for a family-friendly Christmas event? High Desert Grange and Toys for Tots are sponsoring their third annual Christmas Convoy of Lights on Dec. 3.

Toys for Tots has a large presence in Churchill County where they accept donations to give to children who would otherwise go without gifts at Christmas. The High Desert Grange is committed to supporting those people and groups whose actions benefit the good of our community.

To enter this growing annual event, a toy or cash donation to Toys for Tots is required. Trucks, tractors, trailers, ATVs, and UTVs are permissible entry vehicles. However, no animals are allowed.

Entrants should meet at the Churchill County Museum parking lot at 5 p.m. From the parking lot, this year’s route will be north on Maine Street to Center Street, right (east) to the large parking lot on the left (north) side of the street where the convoy will disband.

Santa has promised to squeeze in an appearance.

He’s very busy at this time of year, but he has assured us that Fallon is one of his favorite places and he will definitely be in the convoy.

Entry forms are available at form.jotform.com/220085593831154. For more information, contact Gloria Montero at 775-427-8210.

Fallon holiday activities

The City of Fallon is inviting the community to the annual Christmas tree lighting and open house at both the Fallon City Hall and the Douglass House.

The tree lighting is Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Maine Street fountain in the historic downtown corridor.

The open house is 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Toys for Tots

Members of the U.S. Marine Corps reserves and retirees are gathering both gifts and monetary donations for the annual Toys for Tots.

Toys for Tots boxes will be displayed at a number of local businesses and also at the Navy Exchange at Naval Air Station Fallon. Once an order comes in and filled, then the Marines will have the family pick up the toys.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and to distribute those toys to the less fortunate children in the communities the campaign is being conducted.

The Marines and their volunteers will also collect toys for distribution for children in Fernley, Silver Springs, Gabbs and Lovelock. The Carson City Marine Corps reservists collect and distribute toys in western Nevada.

Toys for Tots trucks will be stationed at Walmart on the weekends.
