The Lady Wave soccer team left Elko County empty-handed, falling to Spring Creek, 1-0, and Elko, 7-0, last week.

In the seventh minute of the game against Spring Creek, the Lady Greenwave appeared to take a 1-0 lead with a goal by freshman Kylee Simper, but the score was taken off the board with an offside call.

Simper also came extremely close to putting another ball in the net, crossing a shot from the right wing to the left and narrowly pushing the kick wide, with no Fallon player in place for a follow.

Later in the half, the Lady Wave earned consecutive corner kicks, but the defense stiffened with deflections by Isabel Zubiria and Elley Dilworth.

Around the 35th minute, the Spartans broke through on a direct kick.

As soon as Spring Creek took the lead, Fallon nearly erased the deficit when McKenzee Peterson won possession on the right edge, but the kick was shut down by the near post.

At the break, the Spartans led, 1-0.

The remaining bulk of the game was played in midfield or on the Lady Greenwave’s offensive side.
Fallon had a goal taken off the board in a major collision and heap of bodies when the Lady Wave were ruled offside to nullify a ball into the back of the net by Simper for the second time.

In the Elko loss, Fallon only trailed 1-0 at halftime before the Indians scored six times in the second half.

Boys soccer
The Greenwave boys soccer team fell to Elko, 8-0, after the Indians scored six goals in the first half in Fallon on Friday. The next day against Spring Creek ended in a 0-0 draw.

Volleyball
The Lady Wave finished the first half of their 3A East schedule without a win after falling at Elko in five games and losing to Spring Creek in four.

The Indians defeated Fallon last Wednesday, 25-21, 28-30, 25-13, 19-25 and 16-14. After beating the Spartans in August’s Yerington tournament, Fallon won the first game before dropping the next three. The Spartans won, 24-26, 25-21, 25-13 and 29-27.

The second half of the season began this week when Fallon hosted Lowry.

Oasis Academy was swept in both road matches last week against Sierra Lutheran and Coleville.

Sierra Lutheran won, 25-17, 25-13 and 25-18 last Tuesday, and Coleville won 25-19, 25-10 and 25-11 on Saturday.

The Bighorns continued league play this week with matches against ROP and Virginia City.

Bird ran the 5,000-meter race in 19 minutes, 24 seconds. Teammate Jay Frederick finished the race in 25:42, followed by Trevor Dunlap in 33:55 and Chase Ackerman in 35:19.
