U.S. Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, both Nevada Democrats, announced Friday $1.3 million in grants to Nevada law enforcement agencies.

The funding was made available through the Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).

The funding includes $750,000 to hire six additional officers for the Clark County School District.

Another $485,263 will go to the Elko school district to improve school security and prevent school violence. The final $59,399 will help the Nevada System of Higher Education implement community policing.

Cortez Masto said she will continue working to ensure Nevada law enforcement has resources to keep Nevadans safe, especially students.

Rosen said the COPS program money is a program she has long supported.
