Lilly is a four-year-old female cat. She came to CAPS because the cats in her home were picking on her. She is a sweet girl but can be shy until she is comfortable with new people. She is looking for a home where she can be the only cat. Come out and meet her, she is charming!
Dear Readers, I know this headline is startling, but we are in dire times at CAPS. Since 1986, we have strived to care for displaced animals. It has been a struggle at times, but the wonderful people of Fallon have always supported us.
We realize how difficult the past few years have been on everyone, yet we have made it through these tough times with the help of our community. Because we are a non-profit organization most of our funds come from donations and the fundraisers we sponsor. We thank everyone who gave us items for the garage sale and came by to purchase treasures.
This year has been particularly difficult because the cost of veterinarian services has dramatically increased. As the veterinary costs increased, the number of kittens and puppies also increased. This has created the perfect money drain.
CAPS adoption policy for our animals is to provide health care, shots, and spay/neuter each animal we place for adoption. We have not changed that policy and the animals we care for until adoption will receive professional care and will be spay/neutered before they leave our shelter.
Unfortunately, we had to suspend our SNAPS program that covered part of the cost of spaying/neutering for low-income individuals. We hope this is only temporary.
CAPS was started by Norma Klenakis one of the “Dirty Dozen” who envisioned a shelter for abandoned animals. From the humble beginnings at the old Post Office, we have sustained that vision for 36 years. To quote Klenakis, “For our organization to exist, we try to get cooperation.”
It is with hat in hand that I appeal to everyone for a donation. It doesn’t matter how much you give, what matters is your commitment to our only no-kill shelter. Looking at the history of CAPS, cooperation is the key to its existence. Fallon truly is the small town with a big heart!
LOOKING FOR A HOME
Puppies, adorable 13-15 weeks old Shepherd mix. There is one girl and four boys. Each one is looking for a forever loving home.
Twelve fluffy kittens ages 15 to 20 weeks. There are eight boys and three girls in a rainbow of colors. All our babies need foster homes. Call 775-7500 for details.
Policy, however, prohibits adopting out puppies or kittens under the age of six months to a home with children under five years of age. This is to protect both the children and the animal.
