The Carson Valley Dirt Bags are Dutch Gannon, Mason Gonsalves, Chase Gray, Emmett Hatcher, Max Iwohn, Colt Knittel, Will Knittel, Wyatt Lyons, Willie Martin, Colin McGuffin, Maclin Miller, Cullem Miller, Dylan Storke, Walker Tholen, Logan Thompson, Isaac Trask, and Andres Zumstein with volunteer coaches Jon Storke, Richie McGuffin, and Trent Tholen.
This past weekend, the 11U Carson Valley Dirt Bags travel baseball team brought home its second consecutive victory against five Northern Nevada travel clubs to win the April Spring Classic in Sparks.
The team was formed in October 2022 and includes 17 players from Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa.
“The team was noticeably amped to play this weekend, no doubt fueled by the excitement of the start of the Little League season as well as MLB opening day,” said Coach Jon Storke. “I continue to be impressed with this mighty team, again overcoming brutal weather conditions to proudly represent Carson Valley and deliver another tournament win. I look forward to seeing the players continue to develop as part of Carson Valley Little League’s Majors Division this season.”
With a record of 10-2, the 11U Dirt Bags will be on hiatus during the Little League season, which opens on April 10 at Lampe Park for the Majors Division.
Reno World of Wrestling
Ella Kavanagh wrestled this weekend in the biggest folkstyle tournament in the nation, Reno World of Wrestling (known as the WOW). The tournament is a 3-day event with over 3,000 wrestlers . Kavanagh placed fourth in the national event with a record of 4-2 with all four wins were by pin. Kavanagh earned an All-American honors.
Fellow Tiger freshman Jasmine Tamondong went 3-2 in her weight bracket.
Two other Douglas High School wrestlers competed in the WOW tournament.
Junior Sage Adie went 1-2 and sophomore Kolton Zinn went 2-2.
