With two games left in the season, the Oasis Academy boys basketball team is still alive in the 1A West playoff hunt.

Despite dropping a pair to Smith Valley, 49-27 on Senior Night, and Coleville, 51-39, last week in their final home games of the year, the Bighorns (1-5) travel to Sierra Lutheran (3-4) and Excel Christian (1-5) this weekend. A weekend sweep would give Oasis Academy a 3-5 record and put it in the mix for one of the final playoff berths.

But for the Bighorns, who are mostly underclassmen, to crash next week’s postseason tournament, they will need Sierra Lutheran to stay with three league wins. The next tiebreaker would come down to each tied team receiving one point for each game won in league play by their defeated opponents. The team with the most points will receive the higher seed.

If a tie still remains, it will come down to which team in their two meetings allowed the fewest amount of points. Oasis Academy would need to hold Sierra Lutheran to less than 14 points because both teams would be tied and the Carson City school won the first meeting, 45-14.

The Lady Bighorns are still in contention after falling to Smith Valley and Coleville last week. They sit with a 1-5 record in the league behind Virginia City (1-4) and Sierra Lutheran (2-4). A pair of wins this week would catapult Oasis Academy into the fifth spot ahead of Sierra Lutheran.
