The Greenwave baseball team continued its perfect start with a trio of wins over the 3A West.

Fallon (4-0) scored in double digits in all three games, defeating Sparks, 13-1, on March 13, then Hug (16-0) and North Valleys (13-2) on Friday and Saturday in Fallon.

The Hug and North Valleys games, originally scheduled to be played in Reno, were moved to Fallon due to field conditions.

In the win over Sparks, which ended in five innings due to the mercy rule, sophomore Carter Paul and senior Steven Moon led the team with two hits apiece. Junior Baylor Sandberg drove in a game-high three runs, while sophomore Trevor Hyde and Moon each had two RBI. Senior Cooper Lee and Paul each drove in one.

Juniors Brady Alves and Isaac Martinez, Lee and Paul each had two steals as Fallon swiped 10 bags.

On the hill, sophomore James Kelsey allowed no hits and struck out six in three innings against four walks. Sophomore Mason Storm struck out the side in one inning pitched and Moon struck out two in one inning.

Martinez’s four RBIs led Fallon in its three-inning win over Hug on Friday.

Paul led the team in hits with two, including a triple, while junior Caden McKnight and Storm each drove in two. Sophomore Chase Carnahan and McKnight each doubled.

Lee pitched all three innings, striking out six and allowing one hit.

Fallon avenged last year’s crossover loss to North Valleys with a five-inning victory on Saturday.

Sandberg led the Greenwave with a three-hit, five-RBI performance, including two doubles and a triple. Lee doubled and singled in three at-bats to go with one RBI, and Kelsy and Martinez each doubled. McKnight led in stolen bases with two.

Junior Bryce Adams pitched 4⅓ innings for the victory as he struck out six but walked five and allowed three hits. Sandberg recorded the last two outs by strikeout.

Fallon finishes the crossover schedule with games against Truckee and South Tahoe this weekend.

The Greenwave softball team suffered its first defeat of the year, 13-6 to North Valleys on Saturday, after it mercy-ruled Sparks, 13-0, on March 13 and Hug, 24-1, on Friday.

The Hug and North Valleys games were moved to Fallon due to field conditions.

Fallon, which opened the scoring first against North Valleys with two runs in the first inning, trailed by two going into the second when it retook the lead, 6-4. But the Panthers, who ended Fallon’s season last year in the playoffs, scored the remaining nine runs in the third and fourth innings.

The Lady Wave, though, opened the week with a pair of convincing wins, starting with the 13-run victory against Sparks.

Junior Kiley Wallace led the team with a pair of home runs and five RBIs, and sophomore Raygen Bartel and freshman Janessa Bettencourt each doubled in a pair of runs. Sophomore Dana Buckmaster singled twice and drove in one.

Bettencourt picked up the win, striking out five and allowing four hits in four innings.

In the second win of the week, which ended in three innings, senior Lydia Bergman added a pair of home runs to her record-breaking career total of 28 as she also drove in six. Sophomore Taralynn Vershum also homered and doubled in five total runs. Sophomore Rochelle Prentice doubled and singled in four runs, Hutchings singled three runs, sophomore Maddison Keller doubled and singled in a pair, and sophomore Vernita Fillmore led the team with four hits, one shy of the cycle (home run), and one RBI.

Prentice struck out three in two innings and allowed one hit, and Bettencourt struck out two in one inning.
