W. Derild Parsons was unanimously selected Saturday by the Churchill County School Board Trustees as their choice for superintendent.

Parsons and the school district will now go into contract negotiations. He is the current director of Learning and Innovation for the Churchill County School District. He has served in this role since 2020, and before that, he was the director of Special Services for four years.

Parsons teaching experience includes 11 years at the sixth-grade level and special education. Parsons has a Master of Education in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and Elementary Education from the University of Nevada, Reno.

The trustees spent Friday and Saturday interviewing candidates. In addition to Parsons, trustees interviewed Blake Cooper, Brandon Moeller and Tim Spencer.

During the discussion that followed the interviews, Acting Clerk Kathryn Whitaker and Trustee Amber Getto said as Parsons had answered his questions, they felt strongly they were looking at the next superintendent.

The school district began the search in February. Summer Stephens, who had been superintendent since 2018, announced she was resigning and moving back to her home state of Nebraska. She was named earlier this year as Nevada’s Superintendent of the Year.
