After a thorough defeat of Hug last Friday night, the Senator football team was able to celebrate its Homecoming in style.

Carson ran for 251 yards and five touchdowns, needing to go to the air only twice in a 37-0 win over Hug.

Friday, the Senators will be on the road at Wooster (1-4), but may have a similar offensive gameplan as they did against the Hawks.

The Colts do have a win this season – a 20-19 victory over Sparks – but have been outscored 219 to 41 in their five games.

COLLAPSING ON THE COLTS

For Carson to be successful Friday night, it’ll have to play stand up defense much like the Senators’ performance against the Hawks.

A majority of Wooster’s offense production has come on the ground this season as the Colts have run for 427 yards on 119 carries.

Wooster has gone to the air just 43 times this fall and has yet to score a touchdown in the passing game.

Wooster’s mainstay in the backfield is AZ Alvarez (No. 23), who has 288 yards and four touchdowns on 61 carries this season.

Defensively, the Colts line has been where they’ve produced the most tackles. Lonnie Harrison (No. 70) leads the team with 12 tackles through three games.

STAYING UNBEATEN IN LEAGUE

The Class 5A North Div. III league standings have some clarity through the first week of league play.

With Galena beating Damonte Ranch, 21-14, Friday the Grizzlies are arguably the favorites the rest of the way after playing for a state title last fall.

Of course, Carson will get a chance to prove otherwise on Oct. 4.

It won’t be a week for the Senators to look past Wooster with a big game looming on the horizon.

Against the Hawks, Carson averaged 12 yards per carry on 21 attempts.

Four different running backs found the end zone in the 37-0 shutout win as Christian Rey scored twice along with JT Heaton, Justin Gonzalez and Johnathan Alvarado.

Santino Ferretti hauled in a 36-yard reception on a big play in one of two passing completions for the Senators last week.

On defense, it was Devin Zervoulakos who led the team with seven tackles while Kekoa Mitchell and Aaron Witt had six and five, respectively.

Jake Weninger recorded an interception and Nicholas Heald was able to grab a second turnover with a fumble recovery.

Expect Carson’s defense to have another strong showing as the royal blue and white gear up for the stretch run of the regular season.
