SENATOR XC RUNS AT WOODBRIDGE
Carson High cross country took part in one of the nation’s most prestigious cross country events of the year this past weekend at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic in Southern California
In the girls 3-mile sweepstakes race, Carson’s Vea Miner was the first from CHS to cross in 115th place in 17 minutes, 55 seconds.
Madison Hager (124th) and Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez (139th) were right behind her in 18:00 and 18:09, respectively.
Jinnie Ponczoch took 174th in 18:39 while Eleanor Romeo was 199th in 19:37.
The sweepstakes race had 207 entrants.
In the boys 3-mile sweepstakes race — which didn’t run until 9:45 p.m. — Sawyer Macy was 89th of 273 runners in 14:46. The top time in the sweepstakes race was 13:30.
In the boys gold varsity race, Alex Miner was 11th out of 270 runners in 14:59 while Sean Thornton took 21st in 15:11. Quinn Kuchnicki crossed the line in 42nd in 15:34.
Ivan Romeo and Nate Freed were 138th and 147th, respectively.
RENO OUTLASTS CARSON VOLLEYBALL
Carson High volleyball will have to wait for its second league matchup with the Huskies to see if it can finally topple Reno after falling in four sets late last week — 25-19, 30-28, 23-25, and 25-15.
Reno has won the last 14 meetings with the Senators, dating to 2016.
UP NEXT: Carson (12-2, 4-2) traveled to McQueen (15-8, 5-4) on Tuesday to try to avenge an early-season loss to the Lancers.
CARSON BOYS SOCCER DRAWS WOOSTER
Carson boys soccer took part in a dramatic, high-scoring affair with Wooster on Saturday at home before finishing with a 3-3 draw with the Colts.
The Senators’ first goal came after Kael Walt hit a beautiful pass over the top to Jaden Gomez, who buried the goal in the 24th minute.
After falling behind 2-1, Gomez tallied his second goal of the day in the 41st minute, but Wooster was able to score again before the half.
Walt added another highlight to his season with a free-kick goal in the 70th minute from distance, beating the outstretched arms of the Wooster keeper.
UP NEXT: Carson (4-5-2, 1-2-1) will host Bishop Manogue (5-4-1, 1-0-1) on Wednesday evening.
MINER GIRLS SOCCER BESTS CARSON
Bishop Manogue girls soccer was able to outduel Carson on Saturday for a 3-2 win over the Senators.
Carson’s Gracie Turner scored one of the Senators’ two goals while Ashley Waiksnoris registered an assist.
UP NEXT: Carson (5-4-3, 1-3-1 in the 4A North) traveled to Spanish Springs (3-6-3, 1-1-3) on Tuesday evening.
CARSON TENNIS LOSES TO BISHOP MANOGUE
Both Carson tennis teams fell against Bishop Manogue late last week.
The Senator girls tallied four points in a 14-4 loss to the Miners. Meryl Johnson and Aubrey McAllister each scored a point in singles with wins of 6-1 and 6-1.
In doubles, Ava Schofield and Dahlia Keating picked up a point by a 6-4 set win, while Betsy Campbell and Lainey Miller grabbed a point with a 6-1 win.
On the boys side, Carson fell 12-6 to the Miners.
All six points for the Senators came from the singles court. Cannon Myler won two sets, 6-0 and 6-1. Sujwal Reddy Yedunuthula (6-2, 6-1) and Rowan Munoz (6-1, 6-2) also won two points apiece for Carson.
UP NEXT: Both Carson teams took on Douglas on Tuesday. The boys traveled south to Minden while the Senator girls played host to the Tigers in Carson.
DAYTON FOOTBALL FALLS IN OT
Dayton High football scored 13 points in a fourth-quarter comeback to force overtime Friday evening against Hamilton (Calif.), but ultimately fell 27-26.
Sophomore running back Duke Evans ran for a monstrous 338 yards on the ground with two scores on 39 carries for the Dust Devils.
On defense, Ivor Evans led the way with a team-high 14 tackles and two sacks.
Sophomore Boston Moon was able to scoop up a fumble recovery in the loss.
UP NEXT: Dayton (2-3) will get two weeks off before hosting Pershing County.
