Carson High School football posted its third shutout win of the season Friday night in a 40-0 beat down at Wooster.
The Senators blanked Hug last week to open Class 5A North Div. III league play and followed it up with another shutout win.
Jake Weninger opened the scoring on a long fly sweep that Carson head coach Ryan Boshard estimated went 80-plus yards.
Senator quarterback Drake Hardcastle hit Ethan Hendee on a long pass for six to give Carson a two-score cushion in the opening half. It was the first of two scores for Hendee in the victory.
Carson led 19-0 at the halftime intermission after Hardcastle scrambled for a short touchdown run in the red zone.
Hardcastle initially dropped back to pass, but found a soft spot and took his opening while running to the corner pylon.
In the second half, Carson got a rushing touchdown from Christian Rey to go up 26-0.
Senior Angel Ruelas grabbed a touchdown pass from backup quarterback Tyler Silsby late in the game as the Senators put their fifth win of the season on ice.
“We came in with our game plan and stuck to it,” said Boshard. “Big shout out to the offensive line tonight. They definitely held their own against some good defensive tackles. “
Even with back-to-back shutouts, Boshard praised his defense, but said there are still a few teaching points in the wins.
“They played good. We have some little things to clean up, but I’m very happy with the way we played and the way we rallied to the ball,” said Boshard.
UP NEXT: Carson (5-2, 2-0 in Class 5A North Div. III league play) will be back on its home turf next Friday against Galena (4-2, 2-0). The winner will grab the top spot in the league standings with two games remaining in the regular season.
