A little less than a year after Burlington Coat Factory closed its doors in south Carson City, a Hobby Lobby has opened in its place.

The store opened April 4, Hobby Lobby corporate said in a news release. It is the seventh location in the state.

Nathan Kortright is the store manager of the 70,000-square-foot retail space located at 4209 S. Carson St., the company said.

“Each store offers over 80,000 crafting and home decor products including floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, kitchen, bath, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking, party and paper crafting supplies,” according to the release.

Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sunday.

Burlington Coat Factory, a clothing and accessory retailer now planning to open in north Douglas County, had been at the south Carson location for more than 15 years. Tenant improvement plans for Hobby Lobby were submitted in April 2024, the same month Burlington closed.

Hobby Lobby arrives as another craft store in Carson, Joann Fabrics and Crafts in the Carson Mall, confirmed in February it would close following that company’s voluntary Chapter 11 filing.

The Hobby Lobby website claims the company is “the largest privately owned arts-and-crafts retailer in the world.”

Hobby Lobby headquarters are in Oklahoma City. The website offers a religious message, stating the company is committed to “Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with biblical principles.”
