A man wanted on child sexual abuse charges in Oregon was arrested Saturday after an armed confrontation in Mason, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Scott Shepard was initially charged with assault before deputies learned of numerous warrants for his arrest in Oregon.
Saturday at 2:10 pm, Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies in Yerington were dispatched to the 100 block of Fourth Avenue in Mason for a report of two males fighting, LCSO said in a news release.
While deputies were en route, dispatch advised one male was armed with a gun and was pointing it other people in the residence. The man armed with the gun was identified as Shepard and witnesses stated that he ran back into the house with the firearm prior to deputies arriving. No shots were fired during the altercation.
Approximately 35 minutes after deputies arrived, Shepard exited the residence and was taken into custody. A search of the house yielded what appeared to be a small black handgun which was determined to be a replica model BB gun, matching that of a Glock semi-automatic pistol, the release said.
LCSO charged Shepard with assault with a deadly weapon.
The felony warrants in Oregon include the following charges:
• 10 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree;
• 10 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the second degree;
• Identity theft and related computer crimes.
Shepard’s bail was set at $525,000. Once he has seen a judge for the Lyon County charges, he will be released to authorities in Oregon, LCSO said.
