Carson High School boys basketball couldn’t finish off its season with a league win over Douglas Friday, falling 50-34.

The Senators were able to honor their five seniors at halftime of the girls contest, highlighting Japheth Banko, Julian Hazelton, Max Connors, Landon Hoff and Justine Sequena.

Carson’s next contest will be in postseason play where the Senators enter the Class 4A North regional tournament as the No. 9 seed.

The royal blue and white will travel to No. 8 Reed on Monday for a 7 p.m. start. The winner of that contest will have a quick turnaround at No. 1 Spanish Springs Tuesday night.

EARLY JUICE

Carson fell behind 9-2 in the first quarter, but cut the gap to one score late in the opening eight minutes.

Junior Ethan Cook swished a 3-pointer from the wing to make it 9-5, but Douglas responded with a triple of its own.

Shane Robinson netted a runner in the lane to bring Carson within five, 12-7, before Hoff drained back-to-back mid-range jumpers.

The consecutive buckets from the senior guard brought the Senators within two, 13-11.

Douglas scored right at the buzzer to go up by four, 15-11, before going on a 13-0 run over the course of the second quarter to take a 28-11 lead into the half.

The Tigers held off the blue and white the rest of the way.

Carson and Reed have played in two games that have gone down to the wire this season. The Senators fell in the first meeting, 51-48, after missing a chance to tie at the buzzer. The Raiders won the second contest, 57-50, in overtime.
