Carson High School (CHS) Pioneer campus is proud to honor Kathleen Bobula Salazar as its senior in the spotlight. After a challenging personal, first year of high school, Kathleen transferred to Pioneer. With support from the school and encouragement from her friends and family, she has found a happiness that is taking her to new heights.
The move to Pioneer has helped Salazar develop her confidence and push her limits to take on new challenges like the Jumpstart program. She said being in the JumpStart program has helped her mature and take on responsibilities she wasn’t sure were possible a couple of years earlier.
Salazar is very thankful for the teachers at Pioneer for helping her through a difficult school transition and making her feel like she was part of a family. She said teachers like Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Steinkraus made her so excited to come to class and learn that it fueled her desire to conquer the obstacles in her way and persevere no matter what.
Salazar also credits her mom for helping push through the rough times and said, “She’s always pushed me to do my best, even when I couldn’t even get out of bed. She’s sacrificed her whole life for me, and I choose to honor her by making her proud through my academics.”
Salazar is a two-year National Honor Society member with a 3.7 grade point average. She volunteers at an animal shelter and has been a foster parent for kittens. When she isn’t busy studying or helping animals in need, she is tending to her own animals and insects, like her jumping spiders.
She also has an artistic side when it comes to painting and makeup. She hopes to turn her passion of painting the human canvas into a career as a makeup artist for movies or theater as well as creating her own affordable makeup line.
As a current Jumpstart student, Salazar is taking classes at Western Nevada College where she will continue after graduation to earn her associate's degree and then possibly transfer to a university and pursue a career in theater and film makeup arts.
