Carson High School wrestling didn’t face much headwind on Senior Night against Reed and Reno, dispatching both programs in a triangular dual in convincing fashion.
The Senators beat Reed, 66-5, dropping just one match before taking down Reno, 62-15.
Carson features nine seniors – Dominic Porter, Jesse Oliva, Keona Basa, Jett Rupert, Konnor Crisp, JT Heaton, Izaiah Oliva, Amaris Davis and Kael Walt.
“Having this many seniors is a testament to our program. Kids that started as freshmen and came all the way through,” said head coach Nick Redwine. “It really just shows that our program builds kids into what they are and they love being a part of our program. … It makes me really happy.”
Crisp had little issue picking up two wins at 175 pounds.
He needed all of nine seconds to pin his opponent from Reed before besting Reno’s 175-pounder by pin in 1:04.
“I’m sad that it’s my last year because I want to keep wrestling because I love it,” said Crisp, who has his sights set on a top finish at regionals in a few weeks.
Though it was the seniors’ night, some underclassmen took advantage of the spotlight.
Sophomore Matthew Manley flipped his opponent from Reed to his back in 1:43 for a pin before winning by tech fall, 25-8, against Reno.
“Manley looked good. He’s been kind of coming on,” said Redwine.
Fellow sophomore Lucas Oden put together pins in 1:40 and 1:59 in his two matches.
“Lucas Oden, he was injured, in concussion protocol for most of December and he was hungry to come back. He looked ready to go,” said Redwine.
UP NEXT: Carson will be in Minden on Tuesday for a triangular against Bishop Manogue and Douglas.
