TIGER BOYS ROLL AGAINST CARSON, MCQUEEN
Douglas High boys basketball opened with a 13-0 run against Carson on Monday and never looked back en route to a 51-20 win.
Daron Kizer and Caden Thacker led the way with 11 points apiece while Jesse Messick added another 10 for the Tigers.
“I’ve just been trusting the process and putting in the work,” said Kizer, who has posted double digits in his last three games. “It’s amazing (beating Carson). It’s great with that rivalry.”
The Tigers have won four of their last five games. The loss came in overtime to unbeaten Spanish Springs.
“We just need to keep sharing the ball and trusting each other that we all have the skill to be really good,” said Kizer. “Any one of us can step up and have a big game, like Evan (Tolbert) did against Spanish Springs and then Caden has been doing really great.”
Wednesday, Douglas bested McQueen, 69-54.
Thacker led the team with 16 points while Kizer had 15. Jesse Messick and Noah Kizer each added 10 points.

DOUGLAS GIRLS HOLD OFF CARSON
The Carson-Douglas girls basketball game Monday saw its share of fireworks despite it being a low-scoring affair.
Ultimately, Douglas came out on top, 42-32.
Ashlyn Greenfield was 4-of-6 from beyond-the-arc, finishing with a game-high 24 points for Douglas.
Giana Zinke had seven points and seven rebounds while Kaylee Bradford finished with five points and four boards.
Dahlia Keating led the Senators with eight points.
“You know it’s going to be scrappy the entire time, no matter what the records are,” said Douglas head coach Jason Carter. “They (Carson) do little things well. I thought we did a nice job of continually battling.”
Douglas’ defense held Carson to just two field goals in the second half.
“I think it’s just the mentality of playing not to lose, instead of playing to win,” said Carson head coach Sam Golden. “We’ve had a lot of close games, but we are figuring out how to win those tight games.”
UP NEXT: Douglas (9-8, 5-4) went to Reed (15-2, 8-1) Friday before traveling to Reno (13-4, 7-2) Monday.
Carson (6-10, 2-6) bused to McQueen (3-15, 0-9) Friday before welcoming Spanish Springs (13-4, 9-0) Monday.
