Waylon Parr, this week’s senior in the spotlight at Carson High School, has become a household name both on campus and in the community. With a 4.3 grade point average and an impressive schedule packed with Honors and Advanced Placement courses, Waylon is a shining example of balancing academic excellence with creative pursuits and community service.
For the past three years, Parr has been integral to Carson High's digital media program. Among his many contributions, his portrayal of "Benny the Brit," a fictional and lovable British foreign exchange student, has gained widespread acclaim. Through Benny’s eyes, Parr humorously explores the trials and triumphs of high school life, making his character a favorite among students and faculty alike.
Parr recently has expanded his media repertoire by launching a local radio show "Waylon's World" on KNVC 95.1. Partnering with CHS teacher Will Houk, Parr uses the platform to spotlight his fellow students, interviewing talented individuals about their passions and future aspirations. The show already has become a hit, showcasing the diverse skills and dreams of Carson High students.
Outside of school and media, Parr and his family recently opened Goods for Charity, a thrift store with a mission to make clothing more affordable and support high school entrepreneurs and local charities. Despite being open for only a month, the store already is making a difference. Proceeds from their latest efforts are being donated to aid victims of the devastating Los Angeles fires.
In addition to his radio and charity work, Waylon has ventured into filmmaking. His recent documentary "9000," focusing on local athlete Tristan Rutledge and his journey to the Nike Nationals track meet, has garnered attention on YouTube and highlights Parr's talent and his dedication to storytelling.
With aspirations of studying journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, Parr is building a strong foundation for his future career. His work in digital media, radio and filmmaking demonstrates a passion for storytelling that promises great success.
