According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s December 2024 economic report, Nevada’s unemployment rate remained constant at 5.7 percent, and the labor force grew by 1,129 people, the department announced in a Jan. 24 news release.
The department released the following data on metropolitan statistical area seasonally adjusted employment:
• Las Vegas employment increased by 4,200 jobs (0.4 percent) since November and 7,800 jobs (0.7 percent) since December 2023.
• Reno employment decreased by 400 jobs (-0.1 percent) since November, and increased 2,100 jobs (0.8 percent) since December 2023.
• Carson City employment increased by 200 jobs (0.6 percent) since November and 700 jobs (2.2 percent) since December 2023.
Statewide, seasonally adjusted, Nevada employment increased by 5,300 jobs (0.3 percent) since November and 10,600 jobs (0.7 percent) since December 2023.
“This month’s report shows a slight rebound in employment growth, which rose to 0.7 percent over the year after adding 5,300 jobs from November to December. The unemployment rate again remained steady at 5.7 percent, while wage growth over the past year again accelerated to the fastest pace this year, rising by 6.2 percent,” said David Schmidt, DETR chief economist.
