Reno Aces hold Military Appreciation Night

The annual Military Appreciation Night presented by the Reno Aces attracted a near full house Friday at Greater Nevada Field.

The highlight occurred when 29 residents from Northern Nevada took their oaths of enlistments into one of the military services. Three veterans β€” Stan Goodin, Navy; MA1 David Shirley, Navy; and John Peltier, U.S. Air Force β€” participated in throwing out the first pitch to Aces player Sean Reid-Foley. The color guard from the Nevada Air National Guard included Master Sgt. Javier Contreras, Master Sgt. David Almada, Staff Sgt. Nayada Omai and Senior Airman Will Mendez. Kimberly Dixon sung the national anthem.

Those taking their oaths of enlistment included:

β€’ U.S. Army β€” Eduardo Andrady and Carlos Ledesma, Reno.

β€’ U.S. Coast Guard β€” Tyler Huckaby, Fallon; Lyle Johnson, Reno; Grey Colbert, Reno; Brayden Carter, Fernley; Joshua Hutton, Gardnerville; Joshua Chavez Morales, Reno; and Aaron Zendner, Reno.

β€’ U.S. Marine Corps β€” Hector Fragoso Munoz, Joshue Rivera Garcia, Tynan Leyva, Carlos Lujan and Diana Ruiz, all of Reno.

β€’ U.S. Navy β€” Renzo Belmonte, Samuel Brewer, Tayliese Jackson, Emily Hernandez Martinez, Alessandra Barrientos and Gabriel Villa Gutierrez, all of Reno.

β€’ Nevada Air National Guard β€” Eduardo Tovar, Los Angeles; and Diego Valente De La Cruz, Reno.

β€’ Nevada Army National Guard β€” Jacey Myres, Tayde Lopez, Michaela Brown and Matthew Guevin, all of Reno; Benjamin Cox, Washoe Valley.

At the beginning of the home half of the second inning, the Reno Aces and the Vietnam Veterans of American, Sierra Nevada Chapter 989 in Reno re- dedicated the POW-MIA (Prisoner of War-Missing in Action) which has a view of the field from the visitor-side of the field at section 118. Rick Arteaga, a Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force, was recognized. His stepbrother, Clyde Alloway, was killed in Vietnam in June 1970.
