The Nevada Veterans Coalition conducted an unaccompanied funeral service June 26 for six individuals at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

The coalition also conducted a short service on the last Thursday in April. The next unaccompanied service will be on the fourth Thursday of July.

The June service represented four individuals from the U.S. Navy and one each from the Air Force and Army.

The April service also included four sailors from the Navy, four from the Army and two from the Air Force. A narrator announces the names and informs visitors that every gravestone tells a story to the thousands of visitors who visit the veterans’ cemetery during the year.

Each ceremony includes a 3-round volley, a tolling bell for each veteran and the playing of taps. The Patriot Guard Riders parade the colors from the columbarium wall to the pavilion to begin each service. The Nevada Army National Guard provides an honor guard that properly folds the U.S. flag, and a member of the NVC then presents it to a guest.
