Several Churchill County baseball and softball players were named to their respective all-league teams, as voted by the 3A coaches.

Both the Greenwave and Bighorns had successful seasons on the diamond, with Fallon winning both the baseball and softball 3A North regional championships last month in Reno before falling short in the state tournament.

Oasis Academy’s softball team came from behind to advance to the 2A North championship game and qualify for the state tournament before being eliminated by rival Yerington.

Following are all-league selections for both schools.

FALLON SOFTBALL

On the softball diamond, senior pitcher and shortstop Vernita Fillmore and junior pitcher Janessa Bettencourt were named to the first team for the 3A East, 3A North and 3A State.

Bettencourt was the team’s power hitter, blasting six home runs and driving in 57 runs to go with her .416 batting average. In the circle, she pitched 135 of the team’s 191.2 innings, striking out 187 and finishing with a 2.64 earned-run average.

Senior outfielder Dana Buckmaster was named to the 3A North second team and 3A East first team.

Kelsey was second on the team in batting average (.363) and RBIs (32) but led the Wave in doubles with 13. He played defense mostly in the outfield before pitching late in the season due to recovering from an injury.

Senior outfielder Nathaniel Zackery was a first-team 3A East selection and a second-team All-North selection. Senior pitcher and catcher Anthony Juarez was also named to the all-3A East first team.

Making the second team were senior shortstop Anthony Gonzalez, senior pitcher Luis Lopez, senior designated hitter Eric Cornejo and senior utility Evan Giovanetti.

Oasis Academy landed four on the 2A North’s first team and three on the second team, as well.
