The oldest continuously operated oval dirt track in the Silver State will host another round of Octane Fest this weekend.
For the first race of the weekend on Friday at Rattlesnake Raceway located off the Austin Highway, pits open at 2 p.m. followed by the gates at 4 p.m. before racing kicks off the evening at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the pits will open at 2 p.m. followed by the gates at 3, and racing will start at 6.
Both racing days will feature IMCA Stock Car, Street Stock, Bootlegger, IMCA Modified, Mini Stock, IMCA Northern SportMod and Dwarf.
In addition to the points races, Friday’s event will feature winged 360 sprints, full-contact adult power wheels, and car, truck and UTV long jumps. On Saturday, there also will be hawkeye and kids bike races.
Multiple payouts are planned for both nights.
General admission for the races are $10 for ages 11 and older, $8 for military with ID, and $5 for seniors (ages 55 and older) and children ages 6-10. Children 5 and under are free. Tailgating car and driver spots are available for $25 each.
Racing fans can also purchase passes for the pit, starting at $30 for ages 13 and older. Non-IMCA class pit passes are $45 and IMCA class pit passes are $55. Those ages 5-under are free, and limited non-tow vehicle passes are $5 each.
Also in action in the motorsports community is Top Gun Raceway’s $5 special event on Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight. Top Gun Raceway is a quarter-mile drag strip located south of Fallon.
After Octane Fest, Rattlesnake Raceway will host a pair of races over the Fourth of July weekend, which will include a fireworks show.
With a month’s worth of races, here’s how the seven race classes have fared.
IMCA STOCK CAR
Royce Goetz (Fernley) and Wade Kennemore (Susanville, Calif.) are tied for the lead with 146 points each. Chris Lewis (Oroville, Calif.) follows closely in third with 145 points. Marie Curtis (Winnemucca) holds the fourth position with 136 points, and Carl Barlow (Silver Springs) is fifth with 134.
Richard Italiano (Reno) is sixth with 100 points, while Zach Cail (Fallon) and Rocky Goetz (Dayton) are tied for seventh with 70. Randy Boyd (Dayton) is ninth with 68 points, and Alyssa Jones (Winnemucca) rounds out the top 10 with 65
Lewis won on April 18, starting from the second position, and Goetz and Kennemore finished second and third, respectively. The following day, Cail won, moving up from an eighth-place starting position, with Kennemore and Barlow finishing second and third.
Lewis secured another victory on May 9, winning the race from the fourth position, as Kennemore and Goetz finished second and third. Lewis continued his success the next day, winning the race after starting from the sixth position, with Royce Goetz and Rocky Goetz finishing second and third.
STREET STOCK
Joe Conroy (Carson City) leads the Street Stock standings with 180 points. Cooper Lee (Fallon) is second with 169 points, and John Durrett (Dayton) is third with 160. Robert Tiehm (Carson City) is fourth with 151 points, and Cody Morris (Winnemucca) is fifth with 144.
Ryan Parkhurst (Carson City) is sixth with 138 points, followed by Levi Annas (Carson City) in seventh with 134. Edwin Cedeno (Fallon) is eighth with 133 points, Shane Ussery (Fallon) is ninth with 118 and Greg McCully (Lakeview, Ore.) is 10th with 90.
Parkhurst won on April 18, moving through the field from his sixth starting position to claim the victory in the 20-lap race. McCully and Conroy finished second and third. Conroy won the following day, advancing from the 13th starting position, while Blevins and Willis finished second and third.
Morris won on May 9, starting from the second position, with Annas and Parkhurst finishing second and third. Morris earned his second consecutive Street Stock win on the following day, driving from the fifth starting position, as Parkhurst and Lee finished second and third.
BOOTLEGGER
Sam Miller (Fallon) leads the Bootlegger standings with 148 points. Nancy Conley (Silver Springs) is second with 137 points, and Samantha Vancaster (Fallon) is third with 134. Virginia Turner (Fallon) is fourth with 126 points, and Joseph Keough (Fallon) is fifth with 96.
Ryan Harrison (Fallon) is sixth with 92 points, and John Flowers (Lovelock) is seventh with 50.
After starting from the third position, Keough won the 12-lap event on April 18. Miller finished second, and Vancaster finished third. Miller won the next race after starting from the fifth position, with Conley and Vancaster finishing second and third.
Miller secured another victory on May 9 from pole position, as Harrison and Vancaster finished second and third. On the next day, Harrison won, leading from pole position, with Miller and Vancaster finishing second and third.
IMCA MODIFIED
Chris Lewis (Oroville, Calif.) leads the IMCA Modified standings with 144 points. Alec Childs (Lovelock) is second with 140 points, and Jacob Dias (Portola, Calif.) is third with 136. Jim Turner (Loyalton, Calif.) is fourth with 131 points, and Cole Jones (Winnemucca) is fifth with 105.
Matt Kampfraat (Granite Bay, Calif.) is sixth with 102 points, followed by Shawn Natenstedt (Fernley) in seventh with 77. Dave Sciarroni (Sparks) is eighth with 72, Brysyn Simeral (Reno) is ninth with 70 and Steven Anderson (Imlay) is 10th with 65
Lewis secured a second feature win of the night in the IMCA Modified race on April 18, winning from the second spot, while Kampfraat and Childs completed the top three. Simeral won the next day, starting from the fourth position, with Lewis and Jacob Dias finishing second and third.
On May 9, Natenstedt won, driving from the sixth starting position, as Jones and Childs finished second and third. Natenstedt achieved back-to-back Modified wins on May 10, starting from the eighth starting position, with Sciarroni and Childs finishing second and third.
MINI STOCK
Jorden Riley (Fallon) leads the Mini Stock standings with 196 points. Cooper Lee (Fallon) is second with 185 points, and Joseph Cook (Fallon) is third with 183. Dodge Turner (Fallon) is fourth with 178 points, and Kent Knisley (Lovelock) is fifth with 175.
Glenda Lee (Fallon) is sixth with 160 points, followed by Bryn Beuchat (Fallon) in seventh with 150. Dakota Thunder (Fallon) is eighth with 148, Nehamian Souza (Fernley) is ninth with 134 and Cody Lehman (Fallon) is 10th with 119.
Riley won on April 18, holding the lead from pole position. Cooper Lee and Cook finished second and third, respectively. Riley won again the next day, starting from the 14th position, with Souza and Corre LaFrance (Spring Creek) finishing second and third.
In the first race in May, Riley won again, starting from the eighth position, as Lee and Kent Knisley finished second and third. Lee won the next race, starting from the second position, with Riley and Knisley finishing second and third.
IMCA NORTHERN SPORTMOD
Jimmy Ford (Yuba City, Calif.) leads the IMCA Northern SportMod standings with 153 points. Colton Blankenship (Fallon) and John Schilling (Stagecoach) are tied for second with 146 each. Dan Dias (Fernley) is fourth with 139 points, and Ray Eder (Gardnerville) is fifth with 131.
Mikey Johnson (Fernley) is sixth with 130, Richard Vander Ploeg (Oroville, Calif.) is seventh with 100 and Jeremy Stephens (Fallon) is eighth with 97. Connor Metz (Fallon) is ninth with 95 points, and Trevor Tiffee (Dorris, Calif.) is 10th with 78.
Ford won on April 18 after starting from the second position. Blankenship and Vander Ploeg finished second and third. Evan Scroggins (Yuba City, Calf.) won on April 19, moving up from the 10th starting position, with Ford and Schilling finishing second and third.
Ford secured his second IMCA Northern SportMod win on May 9, starting from the seventh position, as Tiffee and Schilling finished second and third. Rafael Flores (Pahrump) won the next day, starting from the third position, with Tiffee and Kohlzin Park (Pahrump) finishing second and third.
DWARF
Joe Frock (Reno) and Vuki Wilson Jr. (Minden) are tied for the lead in the Dwarf standings with 98 points each. Philip Rowland (Minden) is third with 94 points. Glenn Sciarani (Yerington) is fourth with 89 points, and Callie Whiting (Truckee, Calif.) and Danny Martin (Reno) are tied for fifth with 85.
Blake Bernstein (Fallon) is seventh with 73 points, Nathaniel Gutierrez (Yerington) is eighth with 45 and Chris Forgnone (Winnemucca) is ninth with 43. Bobby Wilson (Tayton) is 10th with 41 points.
Vuki Wilson Jr. won on April 18, starting from the second position. Frock and Rowland finished second and third. Frock won on April 19 after starting from the sixth position, with Wilson Jr. and Rowland finishing second and third.
SPRINT CAR
Brandon Ternora won on May 10, starting from the second position.
