The Carson City Cultural Commission meets 5:30 p.m. Monday in the community center and will consider the finalists for a recent traffic signal box beautification project.

In April, the city solicited proposals for the “Out of the Box” initiative that is sponsored by McDonald’s, 395 Motorsports and Carson Paint Mart. Selected artists will be paid $1,000 for each box. Six traffic boxes (typically located at street corners at ground level) were identified for the contest.

Monday, the Cultural Commission will mull over finalists who responded to the theme of Carson City history. The submissions can be found at https://legistarweb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/attachment/pdf/3385839/Finalists._Out_of_the_Box_2025.pdf.

The Cultural Commission will make recommendations to the city manager, who may approve or deny the designs or defer the decision to the Board of Supervisors.

In other action:

• Cultural commissioners will hear a presentation regarding the Nevada Neon Project. The discussion-only item follows commissioners’ interest in a potential neon art program in the capital city.

• Commissioners will make a recommendation to the Redevelopment Authority regarding $25,000 from the redevelopment revolving fund for nonprofit arts and cultural events.

Applications for the meeting, requesting $5,000 each, came from Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City Symphony Association, Wild Horse Productions and Sierra Nevada Ballet.
