More speed between here and Reno has been determined by Mr. Dyer, the proprietor of the line of stages between those two points. Hereafter will be two instead of but one change of horses. These changes will be made at Washoe City and “Brown’s” — a station just north of Steamboat Springs. These are six horse coaches and constitute one of the best appointed stage lines on the Pacific Coast.

A number of Carsonites have organized a company which will outfit several miners to prospect in the district near the Winters mine. It is proposed to send these men through the Pinenut range, where a great deal of high grade flat has been found from time to time.

Non-union plumbers and laborers were laying sever pipes at the Clear Creek Job Corps site today, despite union picketing. The Job Corps Camp, Nevada’s first, is scheduled to open in July.

Census Marshal for Ormsby County. U.S. Marshal Lemmon has appointed Capt. Charles A. Witherell, of this city, Census Marshal. All persons should remember that it is their duty as good citizens to facilitate, as far as possible, the labor incident to this office. We bespeak for Capt. Witherell, who is an old soldier, the cooperation of our citizens.

The best evidence of the prosperity of any section of a country is the fact of its being known and honored in other places. The great caterers of amusement-loving public are the first to find successful and prosperous localities in which they cast their lines. The fact that the greatest show on earth is coming to Carson on June 23 is flattering to our people here.

The Hagy Scenic Co. has their production of “Parsifal” the longest and most expensive moving picture subject in existence and will put it on at the Opera House tonight. Extra scenes will be presented of the Jap war, and new comedy features.

There will be a meeting held at 8 o’clock tonight at the Civic Auditorium for the purpose of organizing a chamber of commerce in this locality. Attorney Jack Ross will be the principle speaker, and talks will be made by other prominent Carsonites.

The city council last evening began legal steps to rescind the city ordinance establishing a five percent tax upon hotel and motel rooms. This action came after City Attorney Dick Hanna informed them a court decision yesterday held the room tax valid.

The long anticipated ceremony has been duly performed and the corner stone of the Nevada Capitol has been put in its place. The day was a splendid one, somewhat warm, but quite as comfortable as was to be expected at this season of the year. There were, as nearly as could count, 750 persons in the procession. In addition to proclaiming June and July as cleanup, paint-up, fix-up months in Carson City, Mayor James Robertson named a committee of 19 citizens to work with him on this project. Charles (Chick) Moran, representing the chamber of commerce, was named chairman.
