A smoke plume from the Sheckler Fire that claimed a home near Fallon from a Nevada Fire Alert Camera.
One home was lost and two damaged in a fire near Fallon reported late Sunday morning.
According to the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Fallon Churchill firefighters responded at 11:19 a.m. to a fire near Reno Highway and Sheckler Cutoff for a fire out of control.
On arrival, it was clear the fire was spreading toward other neighborhoods, so resources from surrounding agencies including a hand crew from Lake Tahoe, Truckee Meadows, Naval Air Station Fallon, North Lyon Fire Protection District and the Nevada Department of Forestry responded to the Sheckler Fire.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, trailers and numerous outbuildings were either damaged or completely destroyed. The State Fire Marshals Office responded to the location and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
