“America the Bee-autiful” is this year’s theme for the annual Fourth of July parade and Maine Street block party sponsored by the city of Fallon, the Fallon Chamber of Commerce and Churchill County Parks & Recreation. The celebration honors the work of local beekeepers and recognizes the importance of bees and other pollinators in maintaining the food supply.
“These past few years have been difficult for many of our local beekeepers and their bee colonies,” said Chamber Executive Director Lucy Carnahan. “One-third of our local bee population has simply disappeared.”
The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Taylor Street at Churchill County Middle School and then follows a standard route. Floats will travel north on Taylor to A Street, then east to Ada Street, south to Williams Avenue, east to Maine Street and then go south returning to the middle school. Float entries will be accepted online through June 27.
Following the parade, a community-wide block party with a variety of family-friendly activities will take place along Maine Street.
