Capt. John Riley of the Fallon Police Department recently graduated from the 294th session of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia.

Riley, with the FPD since 2003, has served as a dispatcher, police officer, domestic violence investigator, detective, patrol sergeant and currently serves as the Support Service captain.

Law enforcement leaders from 48 states, the District of Columbia, 14 countries, six military organizations and four federal civilian agencies attended the session. Known globally for its academic rigor and leadership development, the 10-week program includes advanced training in communication, leadership and physical fitness.

Candidates selected for this program have proven themselves as experienced and capable leaders. On average, participants have 21 years of law enforcement experience and are expected to return to executive-level positions within their agencies.

During the graduation ceremony, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino addressed the class, and Brandt “BT” Carmical of the Camp Robinson Police Department in North Little Rock, Arkansas, served as the class spokesperson.

Instruction was led by a team of FBI special agents, academy staff, and faculty — many holding advanced degrees and recognized internationally in their respective fields. In partnership with the University of Virginia, participants also have the opportunity to earn college credit through the program.

Since its founding in 1935, more than 56,000 law enforcement professionals have graduated from the FBI National Academy, the same facility where new special agents and intelligence analysts are trained.
