Douglas High School softball saw another Tiger earn Class 5A all-league Player of the Year honors this spring in senior Cam McLelland.

McLelland, a Case Western Reserve commit, was Douglas’ best hitter and pitcher all season.

The outgoing senior put up a .540 batting average with eight home runs, 19 doubles and two triples to go alongside 44 RBIs this season.

She ends the spring with a .565 on-base percentage and a .956 slugging percentage.

In the circle, McLelland posted a 10-5 record with a 2.78 ERA in 90.2 innings of work.

She finished the season with 126 strikeouts to 44 walks and limited opponents to a .233 batting average against.

McLelland did not make the all-league team as a junior after missing a majority of the season with an injury, but was a second team all-region selection as a sophomore.

FIRST AND SECOND TEAM

Douglas had four other players this spring earn first or second team honors for their play.

In the infield, Marissa McLelland – Cam’s sister – earned a first team all-league nod after putting together an impressive season at second base.

Marissa ended the spring with a .479 batting average and a 1.067 OPS, recording 57 hits and 13 RBIs alongside nine doubles out of the leadoff spot of the lineup.

In the outfield, Annie Hill was also a first team selection for her stellar defensive play in center field along with her performance at the plate.

Hill had a .487 batting average in 126 plate appearances for the Tigers, mashing two home runs, three triples and 17 doubles for Douglas to go with 33 RBIs.

It marks the second season in a row Hill earned all-league first team honors.

Catcher Peyton Simpson made her second consecutive all-league team after being chosen as a second team catcher this spring.

Simpson, a junior, missed time with an injury, but still put up a .483 batting average with a home run, a double and 10 RBIs at the dish this spring.

By the end of the season, Simpson was calling her own games behind the dish. Haylie Pledger earned second team honors as a pitcher for the first time in her preps career.

The junior hurler went 8-2 this season with a 3.55 ERA over 92.2 innings of work. Pledger struck out 80 opposing batters and limited hitters to just 23 walks.

For the Senators, catcher Sofia Morrison earned first team honors for her play behind the plate this spring.

Morrison, who was an honorable mention last season, led the Senators in essentially every offensive statistical category.

She was Carson’s leading hitter in terms of batting average (.462), hits (43), RBI (32), doubles (8), home runs (8), slugging percentage (.849) and OPS (1.334).

Fellow Senator Cali Stagliano also built upon her honorable mention selection from last season with second team honors this year.

Stagliano pelted four home runs for Carson to go with a .301 batting average. She knocked in 11 RBIs and recorded seven doubles this spring.

HONORABLE MENTION

Cameron Coats, Ava Gildea and Hailee Lister all received all-league honorable mention nods for their play.

Coats, who held down first base, hit .311 this spring with three home runs, four doubles and 27 RBIs.

Gildea, who was Douglas’ primary shortstop, posted a .277 batting average this season with three home runs, five doubles and 22 RBIs of her own.

Lister, who finished off her freshman season with the Tigers, picked up her first all-league selection for her performance this season.

She hit .337 this spring with two home runs, two triples and five doubles to go with 17 RBIs.

The Senators had three more members of its 2025 team earn honorable mention honors this spring.

Kiele Franco, Maddie Blanchard-Salazar and Ari Gallardo-Yanez rounded out Carson’s all-league selections.

Franco hit .456 this season at the plate, driving in 15 RBI with six doubles and a home run.

In the circle, Blanchard-Salazar posted a 7-10 record with 81 strikeouts to 48 walks alongside a 6.39 ERA.

Gallardo-Yanez was another power bat the Senators could count on this spring, hitting .375 with a double, a home run and 16 RBIs.
