Spooner backcountry projects alter Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs
It’s been a test of logistical planning, but the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs are still happening in July and are beginning and ending at John L. Harvey Field at WNC.
TRTER has adjusted its event courses for Saturday, July 19, because of Marlette Dam and Flume pipeline projects in the Sierra backcountry normally utilized by participants, their teams and race infrastructure in the 100-mile and 50-mile endurance runs.
Consequently, the 100- and 50-mile events have been canceled, and 50K and 14-mile races are starting at 7 a.m. The only change to the 50K course is the subtraction of the loop around Marlette Peak.
Runners take off from John L. Harvey Field, proceed up Ash Canyon Road to Snow Valley Peak, then traverse the Tahoe Rim Trail to Laxalt Junction.
Participants then proceed to Capital 2 Tahoe Trail to Waterfall Aid Station, then head home via the Ash Canyon trail to the baseball diamond.
As for the 14-mile route, runners will take off from John L. Harvey Field, climb Ash Canyon to Kings Trail, then swing by Waterfall Aid Station before racing back to WNC.
An ultra lounge party awaits finishers. Among the rewards at WNC are foot baths, Hoch Family Creamery ice cream, live music from EV and the Electric Soup, and adult beverages. Runners can enter the alternate races at trter.com.
