Douglas High School track and field got to get its first looks at in-season competition on its home turf Saturday against Reno, Carson and Virginia City.
The Tiger girls were second as a unit with 37 team points — beating Carson by one — while the boys were third with 21 team points.
Douglas dominated the 100-meter dash, with four of the top five finishers in the event. Anna Patmont won with a time of 12.77 seconds, while Katelyn Coons was third in 12.90. Coons won the 300-meter hurdles in 50.29 for the Tigers.
In the 200, Grace Strabala took first place with a 27.14.
Amy Van Wagenen completed the 800 in 2:39.44 to take second place while Lucy Nord was third in 2:39.48. Nord won the 1,600 in 5:50.57.
Douglas did not run any relays, but did have a couple of notable finishes in field events.
Junior Kaitlyn Molyneux finished in second place in the high jump with a clearance of four feet, six inches.
In the pole vault, senior Stella White was third with a recorded mark of 10-6.
Strabala won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet-3 while Kaylee Bradford and Patmont were fourth and fifth, respectively.
For the Douglas boys, CJ Bera was third in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.63 and 23.70, respectively.
Bera also took third in the 400 in 52.85, besting teammate Colton Hartline, who took fourth.
Senior Luke Davis won the 800-meter run in 2:06.69 before taking second in the 1,600 in 4:48.73.
Senior Michael Cahill won the shot put with a throw of nearly 40 feet (39-10.75).
Denmarc Williams was second in the discus with a heave of 117-3 while junior Alex Winter was third with a throw of 114-1.
Douglas will host the Northern Nevada regional track and field meet this spring, which begins May 3.

LANCERS BEST TIGER SWIM IN SEASON OPENER
McQueen’s swim teams were able to defeat Douglas to kick off the season Saturday.
On the girls side, Douglas fell 140-128 in a close meet.
Tierra Mackay won the 100-yard freestyle in 59.68 for the Tigers as well as the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.19).
The 200-yard medley relay team of Gracie Goss, Carli Stevenson, Caitlin Taylor and Mackay finished in 2:03.39 to grab first place.
Stevenson was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:14.11.
In the 1-meter dive, Kiley Wagstaff won with a score of 163.2 while Valerie Vieira was second with a score of 106.90.
On the boys side, the Lancers took down the Tigers by a score of 129-99.
Era Rowlett won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:10.86 while Baylen Rowlett won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:21.87.
Baylen also won the 500-yard freestyle relay in 5:44.24.
The Tigers’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Scott Peck, Jackson Yturbide, Wyatt Tomazin and Rowlett took first place in 4:18.26.
On the diving platform, Timothy Gleason put together a 161.60 to take first in the 1-meter competition while Kai Ensign was second with a 156.65.
DOUGLAS SOFTBALL, BASEBALL OPEN THIS WEEK
The Douglas High School softball team began its 2025 spring campaign at Reed (1-0) on Tuesday evening.
The three-time defending Class 5A North regional champs don’t have another scheduled game after the Reed game until March 11 in Minden against McQueen.
Douglas baseball began its season at home Tuesday, taking on Fallon.
The Tigers will travel to take on Fernley on Thursday before hosting McQueen on Saturday.
FALCON BASEBALL GETS TWO WINS
Sierra Lutheran High School baseball opened up its first weekend of play with a pair of lopsided wins over Carlin (15-0) and Pyramid Lake (15-3).
The Falcons fell to North Tahoe (10-2) and tied Excel Christian (9-9) in their first games of the season.
In the 15-0 shutout win over Carlin, freshman Noah Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Sophomore Matt Fahey was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs while junior Grayson Ricks went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs out of the leadoff spot.
On the hill, freshman Shaun Castro no-hit Carlin over four innings with six strikeouts and two walks allowed.
Against Pyramid Lake, Ramirez drove in two more, going 1-for-2 with a triple.
Castro and Fahey were each credited with an RBI, as well.
UP NEXT: Sierra Lutheran (2-1-1) is at home this weekend with a three-game set against West Wendover (1-2). Game 1 is Friday at 4 p.m.; the second and third games will be a Saturday doubleheader, beginning at 10 a.m.
