Speared fish. The market is filled with speared trout, which are brought in by Indians. It is a violation of the law to spear fish or have them in one’s possession, much less offering them for sale as is done by our local dealers.

(Lynching at Hazen, continued) Who composed the mob is a mystery. No one seems to know anything about the affair. Everyone is talking about the incident of the night, but no one ventures an opinion as to who did the work. Wood was caught here last night in the act of robbing two men at the depot. His remains were buried today on the desert a half mile from town, his body being the first to be interred in the Hazen graveyard.

Why Jim Townsend is missed in Bodie. The saloons generally are pretty well deserted these dull times by 1 o’clock in the morning. When Jim Townsend was here, he would make things lively for the lonesome bartenders.

Sometime during the night before last a party of men got together at Empire and made a raid upon the Chinese quarter of that settlement, driving out the Chinese people and demolishing several of their shanties. It is thought the Chinese were behind burglaries in the area. Yesterday afternoon Sheriff Swift summoned a Posse Comitatus and marched to the seat of war. It is hoped that the ringleaders in this disgraceful business may be promptly arrested.

(Mining accident continued) Fitzpatrick became unconscious and Ferguson tried to pull him out, but owing to the gas getting the best of him he started out to get help to remove his partner. He staggered out through the tunnel, and luckily, Bob Giles was at his home. With the help of two butchers, they worked on Fitzpatrick for two hours until Dr. Pickard arrived. If not for the butchers, the two miners would have died.
