The Carson High School boys and girls track teams both took third place at the Senators’ home league meet this past Saturday.

Galena won the boys team portion of the event with 84 team points while Spanish Springs was the top team on the girls side with 78.66 points.

Allison Peachay led the Senator girls sprinters with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 27.87 seconds. Peachay went on to take third in the 400 (1:04.2).

Hannah Budd and Nastasia Sulprizio were fourth and fifth, respectively in the 800 while Vea Miner took fourth in the 1,600.

Jinnie Ponczoch took third in 3,200 in 13 minutes, 14.91 seconds for the Senators.

Anne Davis won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.22, taking first place and also took second in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 6.50 inches.

Freshman Madison Krueger was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.32 and third in the triple jump at 30-7.25.

Julie Salanoa took second place in the shot put with a throw of 32-2 while Emjae Salanoa was third in the discus, registering a mark of 92-6.

Freshman Claire Billings was second in the high jump, clearing 4-6.

In the relays, Carson’s 4x100 unit of Saule Astronomo, Davis, Lillian Turner and Peachay won the event with a time of 53.05.

On the boys side, senior Kekoa Mitchell was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.55, setting a personal record.

Mitchell went on to take second in the discus with a throw of 129-4, another PR.

The trio of Sawyer Macy (2:08.76), Quinn Kuchnicki (2:10.14) and Alex Miner (2:12.22) were second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 800 meters.

Sean Thornton took fourth in the 1,600 meters in 4:36.81.

Thornton and Kuchnicki were both top five in the 3,200 as well, taking fourth and fifth, respectively.

Senior Angelo Macias was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39-8.

In the relays, the Senators’ 4x100 team of Macias, Sylis Chalmers, Eli Gonzalez and Mitchell won the event in 47.31.

LANCER BASEBALL DOWNS SENATORS

McQueen High School baseball got the upper hand over Carson in their first meeting of the season Friday, 12-1 (5 innings).

The Lancers got on the board with two runs in the top of the first, but the Senators cut the deficit in half in their first trip to the plate.

Tyler LaFollette led off the inning with a single to center field and Ethan Cook drove him home on a one-out single into left.

McQueen broke the game open with four runs in the fourth and six in the fifth before the game ended by run rule.

UP NEXT: Carson (2-2) and Douglas (2-1) tangled with each other Tuesday evening at Carson. The Senators will travel out to Reed (2-3) on Thursday for a 3:45 p.m. start.

SENATOR SOFTBALL COMPLETES CHICO TOURNEY

Carson High School softball went over the Sierra to take part in five games this weekend in Chico, Calif., in a tournament.

The Senators won 15-4 over Shasta and tied University Prep, 7-7. Carson fell against Pleasant Valley (7-4), Inderkum (17-3) and Sutter (9-3).

Senior Sofia Morrison went 11-for-18 with three home runs, three doubles and 10 RBIs in the five games.

Morrison tallied at least one hit in every game and hit two home runs in the game against Pleasant Valley.

Kiele Franco had three multi-hit performances in the five-game tournament with three RBIs and a double.

Rhys Branham went 2-for-3 with two RBIs against U-Prep before driving in two more runs while going 3-for-4 with a double against Shasta.

Jordan Brubaker, Cali Stagliano and Riley Kuhlman all had multi-hit games in the win over Shasta.

UP NEXT: Carson (2-3-1) played its first home game of the season Tuesday against Damonte Ranch (0-1). The Senators are back on the road Thursday to take on Bishop Manogue (3-0).


DAYTON BASEBALL DOUBLES UP HUG

The Dust Devil baseball team defeated Hug in both ends of a Saturday doubleheader by scores of 15-0 and 18-1.

In the opener, Dayton scored 11 runs in the fourth inning to force a run rule behind a 2-for-2 day from Ivor Evans.

Evans hit a double and a home run while driving in four.

Fellow senior Ryan Frank was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Travis Gardner and Beau Walker both were credited with two RBIs in the win.

On the mound, River Aten struck out seven while pitching four scoreless innings.

In Game 2, Evans knocked in seven RBIs, bringing his weekend total to 11 in two games.

He homered again in the second game.

Sophomore Duke Evans went 2-for-2 with a home run, double and four RBIs in the second contest.

Austin Coltrin and Dallan Cowee both tallied two RBIs apiece, as well.

UP NEXT: Dayton (5-1) was at home Tuesday against Smith Valley (0-0) before traveling out to Wooster (2-1) this weekend for a Saturday doubleheader.


DUST DEVIL SOFTBALL REMAINS UNBEATEN

Dayton High School softball sits at 6-0 on the season after two wins over Hug this past weekend.

The Dust Devils beat the Hawks, 20-2, in three innings in the first game. The second game was a 1-0 forfeit win, according to MaxPreps.

In the opener, every single Dayton hitter recorded at least one hit in the win.

Sophomore Macie Hannum went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and four RBIs to lead the Dust Devils.

Junior LaSade Conti was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Paola Lopez (three RBIs), Alexis Munoz (two) and Esmeralda Hernandez (two) all drove in at least two RBIs in the victory.

Through the first six games of the season, Dayton has outscored its opponents 70-15.

UP NEXT: Dayton will remain at home Wednesday afternoon to take on South Tahoe (0-6).


DAYTON TRACK HOSTS DUST DEVIL INVITE

Friday afternoon, Dayton High School hosted the Dust Devil Invite.

Dayton won as a team on the girls side with 103 points. The boys were third overall with 80.5 points, finishing behind North Valleys (151.5) and Fernley (137).

Gwyneth Binkier finished top five in the girls 100- and 200-meter dashes in 14.75 and 29.55, respectively.

Sophomore Hazel Winward was fourth in the 400, posting a time of 1:11.72.

Freshman Grace Kennison took second in the 100-meter hurdles in 21.05 while Lida Krodel won the 300-meter hurdles in 56.44

Sophomore Madison Tinsley won the high jump with a clearance of 4-8 and took second in the pole vault, recording a high jump of 7-6.

The Dust Devils’ 4x100 (Fiona Keith, Binkier, Jenny Myers and Tinsley) and 4x200 (Stella Keith, Kennison, Aryanna Dietz and Tinsley) relay teams both finished in second place.

On the boys side, Luke Gomez was fifth in the 800, recording a 2:35.48.

Rhys Evans won the 110-meter hurdles in a personal record time of 17.20. Evans also PR’d in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.53, taking first place once again.

Evans also competed in the pole vault where he took home gold with a clearance of 13-3.

Junior Blake Lyman was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 36-5.


SIERRA LUTHERAN SWEPT BY WEST WENDOVER

The Falcon baseball team opened up 2A North league play over the weekend with a three-game set against West Wendover (5-2, 3-0).

The Wolverines won all three games by final scores of 10-8, 18-4 and 6-1.

Sierra Lutheran took a 6-0 lead in the first game, which began with a two-run double from freshman Noah Ramirez. Anton Granata followed with a double of his own that made it 4-0. Ramirez and Matt Fahey each tallied two RBIs in the opener.

West Wendover scored seven runs in the fourth inning and tallied three more runs total in the fifth and sixth to win the opener.

In Game 2, Drew Gleiser went 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot while Ramirez, Granata and Tristian Dries each drove in a run.

The Falcons tallied two hits in the third game of the series.

UP NEXT: Sierra Lutheran (2-4-1, 0-3 in Class 2A North league play) was at home Tuesday against Oasis Academy (3-0, 3-0). The Bighorns will host the Falcons in a doubleheader Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.
