A 43-year-old man with a Reno address was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly leading the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on a 10-mile pursuit that ended at the north Carson Walmart, according to a March 11 arrest report.
Two suspects who were passengers in the car remain outstanding, Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed Wednesday.
The incident started at approximately 6:39 p.m. Tuesday when a CCSO officer was patrolling the 1700 block of North Carson Street. A southbound white Saturn sedan without a front license plate caught the officer’s eye. When the car pulled into an auto parts store and sped north through the parking lot, the officer activated his lights and sirens, according to the report.
“An approximately 10 minute and 10.35 miles pursuit ensued,” the arrest report states.
The chase occurred along Roop, Stewart, East Fifth Street, Fairview and College Parkway with the car allegedly running traffic signals and hitting speeds of 80 mph, the report shows.
The vehicle entered the Walmart parking lot and stopped in front of the store. All three suspects inside the vehicle fled. Two suspects, including the driver who was later identified as Arthur Davis, entered the store. The third suspect walked away, westward, the report shows.
“I elected to continue to pursue Davis, because he was the driver of the vehicle. Davis began to throw produce items at me as we ran through the northwest portion of the store. I continued to give him commands to stop; he did not comply,” according to the arrest report.
The officer reportedly caught up to Davis as he neared the “’A’ aisles.” Concerned about patrons in the store, the officer tackled and handcuffed the suspect, the report says.
“It should be noted during the detention Davis and I slid approximately 1-2 feet across the floor. Davis later advised he hit his knee, toes and nose on the floor during the detention. Davis had a minor laceration on his forehead and nose; this was sustained when he was taken down to the floor. No strikes, impact weapons or other types of force were used during the detention,” according to the report.
The reporting officer requested medical attention for Davis, and the suspect was later taken to the hospital.
“The doctor that cleared Davis advised he had minor fracture on the end of his nose. He advised Davis this would heal on its own and no further treatment was necessary,” the report said.
Another officer had recovered a firearm inside Walmart from the second suspect. It was identified as a loaded 9mm Glock with a 15-round magazine reported stolen in a March 1 vehicle burglary in Reno, according to the arrest report.
Inside the vehicle, officers reportedly found an open bottle of alcohol, suspected drug paraphernalia, meth and heroin. Also in the vehicle, according to the report, were three large pry bars, six gloves and “multiple medical style masks.”
Drugs were allegedly found in the suspect’s right sock as well, the report says.
Davis is facing felony possession of a controlled substance and felony eluding law enforcement and endangering, along with two misdemeanors. He was booked into the Carson City Jail on $31,637 bail, according to the report.
The second suspect, outstanding as of Wednesday, was described as a Hispanic adult male in his 30s. The suspect had a medium build, with long brown hair, a receding hair line and a mustache. He was wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt, according to CCSO.
The third suspect was described as a Hispanic female also in her thirties with a medium build and dark clothing on.
