The Fallon City Council approved a parcel merger and heard the November police report at their March 4 meeting.

Rochelle Tisdale, principal of Oasis Academy, made a public comment thanking the Fallon Police Department and Capt. John Riley for helping Feb. 19 with the school’s “Anything But a Car Day.” As part of the Future Farmers of America Agriculture Week celebration, students rode to school on horses, scooters, side-by-sides and even the Hiskett and Sons cement truck.

“We just wanted to thank the city for helping us make sure those kids got to school safely, letting the community be aware and helping with the traffic control,” Tisdale said.

The council approved Daniel Termini’s request to merge his two parcels at 365 Lincoln St., into a single parcel of 8,969 square feet. Termini’s building permit application for a detached garage was recently rejected because it would cross over the parcels’ adjoining property line.

City Engineer Derek Zimney said combining the lots is an appropriate measure.

“The smaller of the two lots was created by a deed pre-1940s,” he said. “I think that combining these lots gets rid of an existing nonconforming lot that’s really not buildable.”

Fallon Police Chief Ron Wenger read highlights from the November police department report.

The department reported a total of 609 calls for service. A total of 26 arrests included six felony arrests, one gross misdemeanor arrest, 10 misdemeanor arrests and four juvenile arrests. Officers also issued 17 moving citations and 126 traffic warnings and handled 26 traffic accidents. Collectively, the department completed 38.5 post training hours and an additional 157 hours of job-related training.

Animal shelter services assisted with 70 animals from the county, 47 animals from the city and four from tribal areas.

Volunteers in Police Service completed 78 service hours.

Special detail highlights included officers on presidential election detail, football game patrols at Churchill County High School, monitoring traffic speeds on Venturacci Lane, a question and answer session at Churchill County Middle School and a presentation at the Churchill County Transportation Department about juveniles under the influence.

City council meetings are open to the public and are held every first and third Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 55 W. Williams Ave.
