Carson, Douglas teams enter region playoffs

5A regionals in all spring sports get underway this week

The Carson High School baseball team (8-22, 2-14 in Class 5A North league play) is locked into the No. 9 seed for the upcoming Class 5A North regional tournament after falling to Galena and Bishop Manogue this week.

Tuesday, the Senators lost to the Grizzlies (14-10, 9-7) by a final of 10-4 after Galena scored seven runs in the first inning.

Carson senior Tyler LaFollette drove in three RBIs and had a triple in the contest while Ethan Cook and Cruz Gonzalez each recorded a hit.
Chase Grundy was credited with the Senators’ other RBI.

Wednesday, Carson fell against the best team in the Class 5A North in Bishop Manogue, 9-0.

Cook, Grundy and Kodie Campbell each had a hit as Carson recorded three hits in the loss.

Carson's season came to a close Friday afternoon in a 9-3 loss to Damonte Ranch in the 8-9 Class 5A North regional play-in game. 

 

MANOGUE BEATS CARSON SOFTBALL

Carson High softball (9-13-1, 4-9 in Class 5A North league play) fell to Bishop Manogue (20-8-1, 10-5) Tuesday, 10-0, in five innings.

Rhys Branham, Kiele Franco and Lillian Barker each had a hit.

The Miners scored one run in the third, four in the fourth and five in the fifth.

UP NEXT: Carson will finish its regular season today at home against Douglas (19-7, 10-3) in a doubleheader.


TIGER BASEBALL DROPS TWO

Douglas High baseball (10-16, 6-10 in Class 5A North league play) concluded its regular season with losses to Reed (15-14, 7-9) and Spanish Springs (19-10, 10-6) Tuesday and Wednesday.

The loss to the Raiders moved the Tigers to the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Class 5A North regional tournament.

Tuesday, Douglas fell to Reed, 5-3.

Jared Peters drove in a pair of RBIs while Titus Gocke knocked in Douglas’ third RBI of the game. On the hill, Gocke recorded a pair of strikeouts before Blaine Bilderback tossed two innings of relief and struck out a pair as well.

Wednesday, Spanish Springs bested Douglas, 9-4.

Grayson Kamper, Bilderback, Peters and JT Lopez all had two hits.

Tyler Sentell had a double and two RBIs for the Tigers while Peters also knocked in a run.

UP NEXT: No. 7 Douglas will open the Class 5A North regional Tuesday at No. 2 Reno (21-11, 12-4). The regional tournament is double-elimination.
